We need a bigger boat!

One of the reasons that we eventually found ourselves in Verona, is that it is very close to the largest lake in Italy - Lake Garda. This is in the northern part of Italy and rounds out the area known as the Lakes District, but is much further east than Lake Como. We did see Lake Como earlier in our trip, but no George Clooney sighting!

Well done to those of you who recognised the Jaws reference above! We hired a speed boat for a couple of hours to explore the lake and loved every minute of it. Obviously there aren't any sharks out in the lake, but it would still be freaky to fall out! You never know what could be nipping at your limbs.

To get to the lake, we took a 15 minute local train to Peschiera del Garda from Verona and headed towards the water on foot. Virtually straight away a dress purchase and some sunglasses were snapped up! A cheeky little shop, why not?

We wandered around for a bit to deide on what we could do, then found the speed boats to hire. OMG, they actually let you take the boat without any experience! Woot! Love that!

We didn't go straight away though, so we headed towards the busy restaurant area and found a great spot for a yummy Italian lunch. There are so many restaurants to choose from in Italy and we really have been spoilt for choice.

The boat ride was great. We liked having the freedom to explore on our own. It was spitting a little at the start, so it was a touch cold but thankfully cleared up. Once we had returned to Verona, it was wet everywhere and appeared to have been raining most of the day. We were very lucky and made the perfect choice to head away from the city for the day.

Rich: At one stage we were headed in the direction of what looked like a largish storm and with lightning in the distance we thought it'd be a good idea to go in the opposite direction. No reason to get electrocuted while on holidays!

We jumped on a bus at the Verona train station to take us back to our hotel and the city centre. Unfortunately the bus was headed in the wrong direction. We realised about 10 minutes into the journey, but stayed on anyway. When it stopped and we were the only two nuff nuffs still on, we finally asked the bus driver for help. He had a little chuckle then told us we would have to wait another 9 minutes before he would start his route again. This took us back through the station stop, but did the second section of the journey, which we needed first time round! Oh well...you live, you learn!

We finished off a great day with our final trip bookings and then out to dinner in one of the busy piazzas and enjoyed the soccer being played between the Czech Republic and Russia!
