Beautiful Barcelona

Well today we had to pack up and get ready to move to our hotel in Barcelona to join our tour group. We had a relaxing breaky with the teeny boppers again! Many looked to have had a wild night out and were just sleeping on the couches in the common area. They obviously had checked out too, but weren't ready to leave.

We locked our bags up and headed out for a while. First stop: Las Ramblas on route to the port area. There was a funky market going and lots of people enjoying the splendor.

Tan: Richard says "there's just old crap here! No-one would buy anything!" Next thing I knew he was straight over to a stall that had records and was saying he was going to buy a few! To borrow a phrase: he did the best Nadia Comaneci backflip of all time!

Off for a stroll around the wharf area and a few pics. There were people everywhere on this glorious day! There also seemed to be a parade happening, we suspected for the Barcelona FC for their 3-0 win the night before in the Spanish league. A great time to be in town with added atmosphere!

Our feet were not wanting a long walk today, so we hopped a train and headed to Park Güell where Gaudí designed many of the buildings. This is probably the most mosaiced area of his that we have seen and unbelievably stunning - well worth the steep hill climb!

We had lunch at a gorgeous little restaurant near the park and sat back and rested. Afterwards it was an easy downhill stroll back to the train station.

Next we cruised back to the hostel to collect our bags and then it was off to the new place. This place was a bit of a distance from Las Ramblas compared to the hostel, but as soon as we got in, it was clear that it was back to a style that we were used to! Quite luxurious! Love it!

The tour group hadn't arrived at the expected time, but we meet another couple from Brisbane who were also joining like us today and ended up having a few drinks at the lobby bar while waiting. We think there are about 7 people joining today and apparently a few are leaving once in Rome like us. Others are doing the full 28 day tour.

We weren't interested in that, as it's too quick and way too much time on buses! We like the fact that we are only doing 8 nights on the tour, as we can meet up with some others and party on for a bit, but then slow it down again when we're on our own! Best of both worlds, winner!

We had the buffet dinner in the hotel, which was included in the tour and was a bit underwhelming compared to the restaurant meals we had chosen ourselves. Afterwards we headed around to the bar as it was really early and then ended up heading out with the entire group into Las Ramblas to a place that was like a German beer hall! The 5 litre beer or sangria drink dispensers were out of control! No we didn't have one!

We enjoyed ourselves and got back the hotel about one, cause we couldn't be bothered going onto the next bar. A fun first night with the crew! Heaps of Aussies, which we expected, but we are having fun!
