Rain, rain go away!

It basically rained all day today, which was a bit disappointing. We knew the forecast and had planned to head to the aquarium for half of the day anyway, so that worked out well.

The aquarium was quite impressive with some sharks and those cool walkways where the fish swim around you. However the Melbourne Aquarium's stingrays put their little guys to shame! Go us!!

Before you even get to see any sea life, there is a very interesting museum about the history of Spanish ship building, the early days of exploring and trade, as well as the evolution of fishing.

Tan: I usually fall asleep in museums and get bored too easily, but with paying extra to get the audio guide actually made it interesting and linked very closely to areas that I have taught in history and also geography. I can feel a claim coming on!

After the aquarium and museum, we headed off for lunch at a restaurant in Old Town. It seemed quiet on the streets and we thought that it was siesta time, but as Old Town is right amongst the tourist area, there is always something bound to be open. We couldn't tell from outside, but once we were in, this joint was pumping! Awesome, we loved the atmosphere and the great food!

Our Spanish ordering has improved. It's also fun to practise a few phrases and words with our translator app before going out. Luckily in the main part of San Sebastiàn where we are staying, quite a few restaurants have English descriptions of the food or even full English menus. Many don't though and may only have a French translation, given the close proximity to France. Fair enough!

We rested back at the pension for a while because of the rain. About 6:30 it had finally eased so it was time to stop hibernating. We headed out for a walk to the train station to organise our tickets to Barcelona. The online site wasn't recognising Australia as a country and there was some other issue, so online purchasing was out. Again we gave the Spanish a go, but the guy spoke a little English and between the broken structures of two languages we successfully got our tickets! Yay!

We really had hoped that San Sebastiàn was going to be beach time and Mojitos! Oh well, you can never trust or know what the weather will be like when you book a holiday! It's currently in transition weather - some warm days and also cool and wet days. This would be a good explanation for our colds and hideous coughs!

By the time we also walked down to check out the bus stop location to go to Bilbao, it was 9pm and about time for dinner. After seeing how busy it was last night, we opted to have a drink at a bar before finding a restaurant, as it seemed a bit early. Three Heinekens and a red wine for €7! Love that....so cheap!

Well the story outside on a Sunday night at 10pm was not the same as Saturday night. We didn't know if it was because it was still fairly wet, or if people did actually care about their jobs the next day!

Back at the bar where we had had drinks, we forgot to mention that it had an outdoor service window. This was like a porthole for the people who wanted to just stand on the street and drink, often the smokers. With no cars in Old Town, it was no surprise that you could do this! Sweet!

It was wet and quiet at the time we finally thought about having dinner. We ended up deciding on a place that sold a variety of burgers for a bit of a change. No it was not Maccas! This place only had a Spanish menu, so it was a bit of pot luck when we ordered! Hahahaha so funny though! We ended up saying the numbers of the dishes in Spanish and hoped for the best!

Tan: The meals arrived and to our surprise they were just what we wanted! Brilliant! I liked the fact that they were just the burger and not too big and didn't come with chips. Yes chips are nice, but often the burger is easily enough. It was good to go back to the pension not feeling like overindulgent blobs!
